The French Nautical Industries Federation (FIN) today announced that total sailboat production in France grew by around 16.2 % year-on-year between 1997 and 2004, allowing for the trebling of production.
Compared to a global market that grew by around 5.2 % per year to EUR 11.7 billion over the same period, the results are particularly strong.
"These exceptional results have been reached thanks to the dynamism of our firms on the foreign markets", says FIN. "Exports increased from EUR 167 million to EUR 627 million, whereas sales in France rose from EUR 187 million to EUR 387 million." In 2005, French production is expected to reach a new record with further growth of around 6 %.
In addition to confirming its global worldwide leadership in the sailing and inflatable sectors, claims FIN, France has also pulled itself from tenth to third place in the European motorboat sector, behind Italy and the UK.
Founded in 1964, the French Nautical Industries Federation was created to defend, represent and promote all aspects of the French nautical industry both at home and abroad. The group is headquartered in central Paris, and currently boasts around 630 members. The federation also sponsors and plays an active role in the Cannes, La Rochelle, Amsterdam, Maritima and Paris boat shows.
