The Phuket Boat Show in Thailand opened today with high expectations for its four-day run. Organisers say over 100 marine exhibitors and about 45 exhibitors in "luxury fields" will be at the show. About 5,000 to 6,000 attendees are expected.
"We are particularly pleased to note that significant regional players such as Taiwan's Horizon Yachts and Singapore's Boat Asia will use PIMEX to launch their marketing campaigns," said Andy Dowden of Image Asia Events, in a statement.
Horizon Yachts, through regional distributors Kingfisher Marine, will display a Horizon 53 for the first time in Thailand at PIMEX. Asia Superyachts is launching the Nano Speed Needle catamaran. A 4-metre Thundercat inflatable capable of reaching 50 mph will also be on display. About 40 boats will be in the water and on the outdoor display.
The newly opened Royal Phuket Marina is using PIMEX to launch Thailand's first-ever fractional boat ownership scheme.
Grenville Fordham, general manager of Image Asia, the organisation which runs the show, said that one of the show's goals is to attract more Thai nationals. "PIMEX aims to help boat builders, brokers and agents increase awareness and develop what is without doubt the region's biggest potential domestic market for luxury and fun boating," he said in a statement. The show runs through Sunday.
