Nautor´s Swan is proud to announce production of the Brenta 76.

A new yacht born from the recently established Nautor´s Swan Custom division at Nautor´s Boatbuilding Technology Centre (BTC) in Finland. Designed by Italian naval architect, Luca Brenta, this custom build project utilises the well-respected heritage and capabilities of Nautor, to produce a yacht that is tailored for the owner´s specific needs and desires. Termed an `Ocean Runner´, this yacht will be built to sail anywhere in the world, with maximum comfort and minimum crew. This project marks a significant phase in the history of Nautor´s Swan. Not only does it launch Nautor´s Swan Custom, it introduces a new yacht designer to the company and paves the way for future collaborations with other naval architects.

Luca Brenta, commenting on the philosophy behind the Brenta 76, says : "This custom build project is born from the experience of all the parties involved, from the boat owner, to myself as the designer, to the manufacturer, Nautor. Often the most exciting moment is the meeting of these different cultures: years of cruising experience and life on board, technical design knowledge and a strong vision of how the yacht will look, as well as a skilled and talented workforce to see the design through from conception to construction."

Luca Brenta was presented with a very clear brief for this model; to create a hull for ocean navigation, capable of conquering the world´s cruising routes, with ease of handling and maximum reliability. He took this brief to Nautor´s Swan and, with the company´s long tradition of creating the most technologically advanced quality sailing yachts, together they developed the concept of the Brenta 76 Ocean Runner. Safety is guaranteed, with at least one back-up system for every function on board, including electronics, engines and sails. Brenta and Nautor´s Swan have worked closely with the owner throughout the project to ensure that all elements of the brief are fulfilled, culminating in a long range cruising orientated yacht that is both innovative and seaworthy.

The Brenta 76 features a carbon fibre mast and a narrow high-tech hull, with fairly vertical sides and sleek symmetrical lines. She is comprised of sandwich construction pre-peg carbon / aramid hybrid fibre reinforced epoxy-laminate, meaning that, despite being designed primarily for cruising, she is relatively lightweight and capable of reaching high speeds. The stability of the Brenta 76 has been optimised by employing a lifting keel, which takes the bulb immersion down to 4.47 m. In shallow waters, the keel can be lifted to 2.65 m to minimise draft and permit passage over coral reefs.

Below deck, the Brenta 76 is capable of sleeping eight people in comfort; featuring a twin cabin upfront, two guest cabins and a master bedroom aft. The teak deck above has a semi-raised saloon, with a coach-roof protecting the spacious guest cockpit. The steering cockpit to stern is located in the most sheltered part of the boat. The sail plan is characterised by a large mainsail, a non overlapping furling genoa and reduced staysail with a self-supporting, roll up luff, making her easy to sail with a short-handed crew in heavy condition. The number of sails on board has been minimised by exploiting the sail/angle/wind-speed used by the Volvo 60´s in the Volvo Ocean Race, therefore extending the range of use for each sail and further increasing the ease of handling.

On the Brenta 76, all the winches are powered and very few sail manoeuvres are needed during long periods of navigation. The sheeting car of the mainsail has hydraulic assistance, in order to assist the helmsman in maintaining fine control when sailing close-hauled, without need for assistance from another crew member. The beauty of this yacht is that despite her large size, two people can easily handle her, allowing vast flexibility for her owner. The Brenta 76 embraces the four cornerstones of the Nautor´s Swan brand : Quality, aesthetics, performance and seaworthiness. She provides a truly bluewater yacht that is not only reliable and built to the highest quality, but is capable of sailing anywhere in the world, providing the ultimate cruising experience.

Tom Blomgren, Director of Nautor´s Swan Custom, commented on the production of the Brenta 76 : "This model represents a milestone for Nautor´s Swan - it is one of several exciting yachts to be produced by Nautor´s Swan Custom. We welcome Luca Brenta to our technical design office here, as well as other reputable designers. With the demand for custom yachts growing worldwide, and a Swan 115 and Swan 131 already in the pipeline, I am convinced we have the facilities and expertise to meet the needs of any customer that approaches us - a very exciting prospect indeed."

The Brenta 76, Ocean Runner, is currently under construction at Nautor´s Boatbuilding Technology Centre in Pietarsaari, Finland, and is due to be launched in June 2006.
