There is growing awareness of how personal electronic location beacons combined with the onboard alert system, should a crew member fall overboard, can save lives. A typical product to meet this requirement is McMurdo´s MOB Guardian which is currently being promoted by the RNLI to Commercial fishing operations in the UK.
The MOB Guardian is a satellite driven safety system that immediately notifies SAR organisations of a Man Overboard or a vessel disaster incident.
o Less than 1 minute notification anywhere in the world of onboard emergencies
o Crews own Personal Safety Devices (PSDs) that are activated automatically by MOB
o PSDs give unique visual and vibration feedback that alert is received
o Onboard audio alarm to alert crew immediately of a MOB
o Constant update of reciprocal bearing to position of MOB
o Unique false alert cancel facility
MOB GUARDIAN automatically notifies SAR coordinates via satellite of a vessel emergency triggered via MOB or manual activation via the PSD or main unit.
The crews´ personal Safety Devices are automatically activated when immersed in water or by their proximity to the vessel. They can also be triggered manually by pushing the "panic button". When an alert is received by SAR co-ordinators (typically less than 1 minutes) they instantly have your vessels position, course, speed and identification. The position of the MOB incident will be instantly visible to the SAR organisations. This is automatically updated relative to the vessels position.
