On Sunday 14th June, 26 year old solo sailor, Hannah White, became the first woman and fourth skipper overall to cross the finish line of the 2009 OSTAR (Original Single-handed Trans Atlantic Race).

As a sponsored Helly Hansen athlete, Hannah was kept warm, dry and protected throughout the duration of the race with kit provided by the global performance sportswear brand.

The gruelling race saw Hannah crossing the 3,000 nautical miles from Plymouth to Newport, Rhode Island existing on minimal sleep whilst encountering thick fog, stormy seas and strong winds.

Despite the extreme conditions, Hannah was kept warm, dry and in the performance zone thanks to Helly Hansen´s technical apparel. Hannah was kitted out from top to toe and from the inside out, in a selection of gear from Helly Hansen - designed to the highest standard to meet the unforgiving conditions that professional sailors confront.

o Stripe Crew Graphic RRP £30. This HH Dry base layer works as a second skin. It´s an adaptable base layer for all conditions and the close body fit enhances the movement of moisture out to the mid layer during high action sailing. A range of feminine colourways and graphics ensure that this piece looks great when worn at sea or on shore.
o Hybrid Top RRP £55. A hybrid construction of HH Dry and HH Warm makes this the perfect base layer for keeping, warm dry and comfortable during high energy activities in cold conditions.
o Helly Welly RRP £120. A knee high, completely waterproof sailing boot. Features include gaiters; support for the foot; exceptional grip for protection and safety; Helly Tech XP membrane for breathability and freedom of movement; and reflective elements for safety.
o Ocean Racing Dry Top RRP £320. Designed to give protection from the cold, wet, wind, rain and waves during fast-paced sailing action. Made with Helly Tech XP, Helly Hansen´s waterproof breathable fabric, the lightweight Ocean Racing Dry Top will help warm and protect the sailor´s body.

> Karl-Einar Jensen, Marketing Manager for Watersports at Helly Hansen says: "We are really proud to be working with such a talented solo sailor. Hannah represents the next generation of offshore sailors and as part of Helly Hansen´s international team she is actively helping us to push the brand forward with the development of performance sailing gear for women".
