| The facility refurbishes powerheads to fit more than 70 outboard and sport-jet engine applications. The company noted in a statement that remanufactured powerheads carry the same specifications and warranties as any new replacement powerhead.
"The majority are used to refresh the power of boats owned by outboard boating enthusiasts and avid sportsmen," said Ray Atchinson, general manager of Mercury Remanufacturing.
The statement also noted that it will eventually move in to a larger facility due to the heightened demand of remanufactured powerheads.
Mercury also remanufactures marine carburetors in Arkansas, sterndrive and inboard engines in Missouri, and water pumps, starter motors, and alternators in Florida.
Every remanufactured product is completely disassembled to its most basic components. Each remanufacturing process includes the renewal of the surface finishes, interfaces, or design features that impact life-expectancy and performance.
Remanufactured engines leave Mercury virtually indistinguishable from new engines, noted Atchinson. "One hundred percent of the remanufactured outboard powerheads in Plant 24 carry a 'build and inspection' sheet throughout the process, ensuring that every step is documented," said Atchinson. "Also, the process document is kept on file so, in the unlikely event of a technical service issue, the exact records of each power head are immediately available." |
