McMurdo, the world´s leading Emergency Location Beacon manufacturer and technology pioneer, has gained Type Approval for the new SMARTFIND EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon).

The British manufactured SMARTFIND range of EPIRBs are the first with both a non-hazardous battery and high brightness LED locator light to achieve type approval.

The certification by COSPAS SARSAT, the international satellite-based search and rescue system, means that the SMARTFIND is compliant with maritime regulations.

The development of a non hazardous battery eases the often restrictive nature of shipping and transportation of EPIRBs.

The innovative SMARTFIND is available as either the standard SMARTFIND E5 or the SMARTFIND Plus G5 which offers an additional high level of accuracy with its integral GPS receiver. Both are compact and robust with comprehensive diagnostic and self test facilities.

The SMARTFIND Plus also gives visual indication of GPS acquisition and both models have a battery status monitor and a 5 year warranty, along with a 5 year battery change interval.

The SMARTFIND EPIRB works by transmitting radio signals which are detected by the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite network. A distress signal is automatically relayed through an automatic ground station to a control centre where it is decoded and the distress and registration details are passed on to the relevant search and rescue authority.

Both SMARTFIND models are the result of an extensive research and development programme resulting in this state of the art technology for both recreational and commercial craft.

Suggested UK retail price inc. VAT:
Smartfind E5 EPIRB from £374.99
Smartfind G5 GPS EPIRB from £545.00

McMurdo is the world´s leading producer of Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs), Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) Search and Rescue Transponders (SARTs), Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), NAVTEX and VHF Radios for the maritime and leisure markets, including shipping, yachting, aviation and outdoor adventure pursuits. The high quality product range is manufactured utilising the very latest technology available, and in partnership with the world´s safety regulatory organisations.
