HEM Odile Remik-Adim, Ambassador of France in Monaco, HEM Bernard Fautrier, Vice-president of the Foundation Albert II, Mr Laurent Stefanini, French Ambassador delegated to the Environment, Mr Jean-Charles Sacotte, Chairman of the Board of the INDEMER, Professor Patrick Rampal and Mr Denis Allemand respectively President and Director of the Scientific Centre of Monaco, Professor Raoul Caruba, President of the Water Symposium, that the Yacht Club de Monaco invited its members to a new maritime conference.
 Organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco in association with the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and the Naval Museum of Monaco, this conference’s theme was: "from Tara Arctic to Tara Oceans: presentation of the scientific contents”, including a presentation from Francesca Benzoni, scientific Coordinator of Tara Oceans, in charge of corals research.
Having acknowledged H.S.H. Prince Albert II for his commitment in the environmental protection through notably his Foundation, Etienne Bourgois, President of the Fonds Tara and Co-Director of Tara Oceans reminded the vocation of Tara, the famous polar schooner (ex-Antartica) who in the trail of Darwin crosses all the oceans of the globe around the environmental stakes.
In the continuity to Tara Arctic expeditions which crossed and investigated the arctic icy ocean (from September, 2006 till January, 2008) under the colours of the European program Damocles, Tara Oceans left for three years (2009-2012) to the discovery of the Oceans life forms. From the tropical coral atolls in Antarctica, the Middle-Eastern isthmi and the passage of the great northwest… never such a global study, running with the current technologies and supported by the knowledge of an international and multidisciplinary scientific team, was ever achieved. More than 12 research grounds associate oceanographers, biologists, geneticists and physicists of prestigious laboratories. A unique scientific expedition also joined with an awareness and educational programme.
"Tara is above all a men story, a passion shared with the Yacht Club de Monaco, which from 2007 had embarked Charles Terrin, one of its junior members, within the framework of the project Tara Arctic ", pursues Etienne Bourgois.
The collaboration and adventure continue… This conference also was the opportunity to announce and to present three Monaco representatives who will join the Tara Oceans expedition in the coming weeks: Didier Zoccola and Stéphanie Reynaud, two scientists of the Scientific Center of Monaco will embark in Djibouti for a program on corals as well as Alain Giese, Tuiga Manager (Yacht Club de Monaco’s flagship) who will also be boarded from the 13th February to the 22nd March, later this year, on Tara acting as Deck Officer. |
